Regular whole body movement in natural ways are good for overall health and will enable children to become better movers, by developing strength and mobility and maintaining flexibility as they grow.
All activities are designed to support physical health and emotional regulation through movement and will help children become resilient social individuals, who feel confident to communicate their wants and needs.
When time is taken to become self-aware, there can be a natural relaxation in demeanor. It can promote a “calm and safe inner environment" and when experienced in a classroom as a mutually safe, co-created space, the research suggests it promotes positivity and ease in attitude towards others.
Barefoot walking, especially in young children is an easy, free, effective way to boost wellness.
It aids development of the muscles and ligaments
in the foot, and increases mobility and flexibility of the whole body. Just as important is the development of proprioception — the sensing of where we are in relation to the environment around us. This contributes to better balance, control and posture. Encouraging time barefoot each day for your children to strengthen their feet is a great place to start!
Squatting is a natural human state and resets posture. We can use the motion of squatting to help us re-animate our structure after a period of sitting. People in traditional or tribal societies rarely, if ever, sit in chairs for long periods of time. When they need to rest, they squat or sit on the ground. It's what our bodies are designed to do. Lower back pain is almost non-existent. For the upper body hanging and swinging from bars is a really beneficial practice which most children love!
How many times have you seen your kids queuing up to use the monkey bars?
The project will educate and inspire schools, young children and their parents about how we can positively effect our wellbeing (as individuals and society as a whole) through more permission of movement and our connection with nature.

Human movement is at an all-time low, and our children are currently facing both a movement and nature deficiency, spending more time inside and moving less than any other generation throughout human history.
As adults and kids alike turn more frequently to "convenient" and tech-based solutions, many tasks that once required head-to-toe use of our muscles and bones can be done with a click and a swipe. Without realizing it, we've gotten rid of the movement-rich environment our physical, mental, and environmental health depend on...but not our need for it.
The good news is, while the problem feels massive, the solution is quite simple...and fun! Bowman, a leader in the Movement movement, has written Grow Wild to show where movement used to fit into the activities of daily life and more importantly, how it can again.
A companion to Bowman's bestseller Move Your DNA, Grow Wild provides practical, everyday, nature-rich ideas on how to let them move their DNA in a variety of kids' daily environments. "Stack your life" for richer experiences that don't take more time by learning how to:
The book presents ideas on how to work more natural movements into the whole family's daily life and can be implemented by anyone who creates and facilitates children's movement environments--parents, relatives, teachers, health professionals, and more.
With many full-color photographs of families moving, stories from other parents and alloparents in a variety of scenarios, and fully cited sidebar text for those interested in the research behind the book, Grow Wild is exciting for a wide range of readers. Humans live in many places and there are countless movement opportunities wherever you live, you just need to know how to spot them.
Children and their families can thrive by learning to move more inside, adventure more outside, and grow wild in any environment.
